Attention to new EU regulation on toy to effectively control

Recently, the European Commission issued a new draft directive to reduce the specific limits of Bisphenol A in some children's toys to 0.04mg /L, thus reducing the content of Bisphenol A in toys that can be used or placed in the mouth of children under 3 years of age.

It is reported that Bisphenol A is one of the most widely used industrial compounds worldwide and is mainly used in the production of a variety of polymer materials as polycarbonate, epoxy resin, polysulfone resin, polyphenylene resin, unsaturated polyester resin and the production of other fine chemical products as plasticizers, flame retardants, antioxidants, heat stabilizer, rubber antioxidant, pesticide, paint etc as well. At present, the specific migration limit for Bisphenol A is 0,1mg/l according to the specific test methods indicated in EN 71-10:2005 and EN71-11:2005. The relevant department in EU said the current amendment made for the transfer limit of Bisphenol A contained in toys was because that the original limit value was not enough to provide adequate protection due to the current scientific evidence available. In fact, most members of the European Parliament called on the EU to implement the ban for adding Bisphenol A in all food contact materials last October. At present, many countries have made certain restrictions on its use in infant and toddler food products, and the new draft of the EU has also shown that the restrictions on the addition of Bisphenol A to toy products are becoming more and more server.
